FINS 375 - Financial Markets (3) 

The course provides a detailed overview of various financial markets by focusing on different financial instruments and market participants trading them. We will explore both traditional (e.g., equities, bonds) and alternative (e.g., hedge funds, commodities) investments from the perspective of investors, and to a lesser degree from a perspective of financial intermediaries and the issuers of financial securities. The course also covers such topics as central banking and financial regulation, behavioral finance and market inefficiencies, and history of financial markets and the issues related to valuation of financial securities and interlinkages between different markets. Prerequisite: FINS301 with a “C” (2.0) or better.  

FINS 410 - Corporate Finance (3) 

This course aims to provide the students with the fundamental concepts, principles and approaches of corporate finance, enables the students to apply relevant principles and approaches in solving problems of corporate finance and helps the students improve their overall capacities. The course covers present value techniques, capital budgeting principles, asset valuation, the operation and efficiency of financial markets, the financial decisions of firms, and short term financial management. You will be equipped with skills in financial planning and analysis combined with practical business theory and knowledge for ethical decision-making.  

Prerequisite: FINS 301 with a “C” (2.0) or better.  

FINS 420 - Introduction to Investments (3)  

Institutional characteristics of securities markets, security valuation and trading methods, fundamental and technical analysis, selection and management of securities, role of the capital asset pricing model in investing, options and futures markets, portfolio analysis and mutual funds. Prerequisite: FINS 301 with a “C” (2.0) or better.  

FINS 450- Real Estate Finance and Investment (3)  

Introduction to methods of financial analysis for real estate investments. Topics include methods of valuation, cash flow forecasting, computer modeling, debt leverage, and deal structures. Emphasis is placed on the financing of individual projects. This course requires greater than average preparation time. It is heavily orientated toward numerical analysis and makes use of case studies and computer spreadsheet analysis.
